Are You Going To Heaven TestDear Friend,

Thank you for taking a few minutes to read this article.  The next few pages discuss a “How to Go to Heaven Test”.  It asks you to reflect on a clear and straightforward question:

Are You Going to Heaven When You Die?

Your truthful answers will tell you where you will spend eternity; either in Heaven forevermore with God or in the Lake of Fire perpetually separated from God.  We pray that the “How to Go to Heaven Test” will prompt you to reflect on the present condition of your soul before our almighty God and Judge.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Opening considerations…

The Holy Bible is God’s Word, and when you consider its magnificence and splendor, you realize it is Christ’s love letter to all mankind.  With that said, let’s try and be clear on one very important issue; namely, we cannot “work” our way into heaven. We cannot give enough money to charity or live our life so sheltered and protected from wickedness, that God will allow us into heaven based upon our own good merits.  For by grace we are saved through faith; and that not of ourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.  2000 years ago, on a cross at Calvary, Christ completed all the required work necessary to get into heaven. We simply need to believe through faith that Jesus is God, and He alone is our sufficient righteousness unto salvation.

So you may be asking yourself, why do I need to consider my thoughts, attitudes and actions if God has in fact already accomplished all the requirements for me?  The answer is clear and straight forward.  Because the Bible instructs us to scrutinize our intentions and life choices.

2 Corinthians 13:5a Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.

This verse points out that we need to inspect and verify everything we do, to validate we are really in the faith.  We need to verify to our self that we individually are truly saved through regeneration of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

This verse teaches us that when we are saved Christ lives in us, and that our body becomes a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit of God.  If God does not dwell within your body and soul, then your spirit is dead to Christ and His life giving salvation.  The Bible instructs us that we can know with certainty if we are truly saved.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Many professing Christians believe Jesus Christ is God; that he died, was buried and rose again the 3rd day. However many of these same people live very ungodly lifestyles. We know salvation is not based on works of righteousness we have done, but simple faith in God alone. And yet the bible says:

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

That means all Ten Commandments, not just our favorite ones, the easy ones to keep.

James 2:2 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

These individuals profess belief in Christ as their personal Saviour, and yet continue to live very immoral lives.  So their professed faith of being born again is not evidenced by their works and deeds.

When my children attended elementary school, they had a spelling test every Friday. The following Monday they would get their test results.  If a grade was 100% correct, they did great!  If the score was 70% correct, well, they just passed.  But if the test result was only 50% correct, they failed.

In a similar manner, the Bible presents you with tests of faith to examine your spiritual condition through your life choices.  You can know with certainty your eternal destiny through this process of self-assessment.  If your test result reflects a failing score, you may very well be on your way to hell. But all is not lost, because Jesus loves you, and Christ died for you on a cross at Calvary.  The  Bible states: For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

At the time of our salvation through faith, we are adopted into God’s family and become His children. Just as a child bears characteristics of his parents, so too Christians reflect traits of our God and heavenly Father. From our faith springs forth a new found life in Christ, bearing spiritual fruit like love, joy and peace.  These godly attributes are made manifest in activities now desirable to us, but activities that have little or no appeal to the lost and unregenerate world.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The next few paragraphs present behaviors that Christians, led by the Holy Spirit and over the course of time, will come to embrace and enjoy. While you may not vigorously or wholeheartedly participate in all of these activities, you should be drawn by God into some level of involvement. Over time your affection and knowledge of Jesus the Holy One will grow.  This is comparable to a child maturing from infancy into adulthood.  If you have little or no desire to nurture your relationship with God and His church family, then you are quite likely not saved.

How your righteousness in God is made manifest…

1. Do you have an active and consistent prayer life communicating with God? Prayer is talking to Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, about all our thoughts, concerns, needs, joys and activities of life. Prayer also involves listening to God when He speaks to you. So prayer is our spiritual breath of life.  Pray without ceasing.

Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

2. Do you have a strong desire to study the Holy Bible, which is full of God’s Love, Grace and Truth? The Word of God is our spiritual food of life.

Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

3. Do you enjoy fellowship with other Christians and frequently attend church services?

Hebrews 10:24-25And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

4. Do you have a desire to tell others about Jesus Christ and His free gift of eternal life?

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

5. Are you bold in your witness for Jesus Christ by proclaiming His good news gospel to your family, friends and casual acquaintances?

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Matthew 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

6. Do you have revulsion for sin, and a desire to live a clean life before your Lord and King Jesus?  Before our salvation we all loved the darkness of evil lusts and hated the light of God.

John 3:19-20 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

7. If you are saved you will do works of righteousness and abhor and hate all evil works. This is where the “rubber meets the road”.

John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

8. Do you sense real joy in your soul as you frequently spend precious time with the one you now love most in your life, your Lord and God Jesus?

Psalms 32:11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Now it is time to self-grade your test results…

You have now considered a few tests of faith that provide evidence for your self-evaluation; to determine if you are saved and on your way to heaven. Only you can truly know if you passed or failed. And only you will be held accountable and responsible for this most intimate and vital of all life’s decisions you will make during your sojourn here on earth.

Romans 14:11-12 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

If you passed your test, praise God for His Grace by which you have been saved! If you failed, then you need to repent of your sins and cry out to God for mercy upon your soul. Going to an eternal home in heaven depends upon your reconciliation with God through Christ alone.  Do not procrastinate!

Proverbs 27:1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

2 Corinthians 6:2 Forhesaith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Remember the spelling test mentioned earlier in our presentation? Perhaps you are a Christian that is not serving the Lord in a manner pleasing to Him, kind of like a 70% Christian.

Luke 10:27And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

The key to authentic faith is true Biblical Repentance…

Salvation of your soul requires true repentance.  Biblical repentance is godly sorrow for our personal sins, with a resulting desire to change our wicked ways.  Evidence of true salvation is a new found love for Jesus Christ, and a strong need deep in our soul to serve Him as God and Lord of Our Life.

Psalms 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

2Corinthians 7:10aFor godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation…

Closing thoughts…

God loves you very much.

John 3:16-17  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

And there are consequences to not having a true saving faith.

John 3:36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
